Last night we had dinner at Stumpy Gully winery..
Let’s start by saying we absolutely loved the Sangiovese and we’re both more than likely going to be picking up a few bottles of it in the not too distant future…
Unfortunately we can’t entirely say the same for the dinner and venue..
As you drive down the lane way, you can’t help but admire the vines, hedges and the winery buildings… but once inside the Cellar Door for dinner, you are in an environment where you need to practically yell to be able to have a conversation with the person next you..
Our dinner consisted of a shared antipasto platter, small main course of beef or fish and a glass of wine.. For $65 per person, a choice of wine would have been fantastic (a glass of red instead of champagne cost an additional $13) and a little extra food wouldn’t go a stray (an additional plated entree or dessert perhaps)…
While the flavours of the dishes were great, we wouldn’t be surprised if a few diners chose to venture past a local drive through on their way home..
Thank goodness for the Sangiovese as if it wasn’t for that (and the view from the small deck) we’d probably be unlikely to visit Stumpy Gully again..
